Description

What is Desogestrel?

Desogestrel is a progesterone-only contraceptive that helps to prevent unwanted pregnancies. The good thing about this pill is that it has a 12-hour window, as opposed to most POPs that have a shorter window.

How it works

The active ingredient in these tablets is desogestrel. It works by stopping the process of ovulation in women. It does this by thickening a woman’s cervical mucus, making it preventing male sperms from getting to the eggs. As a result, pregnancy is prevented since male sperms are unable to reach the female eggs for fertilization. Desogestrel can be taken up to 12 hours late and will still be effective. It is a perfect option for women who would like to avoid oestrogen products. Desogestrel is also recommended for breastfeeding mothers.
